A Note from the Principal
Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day –missing school puts them behind.
At Butler Primary School we want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.
If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school.
There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses can put them behind and can affect their educational outcomes.
Each missed day is associated with progressively lower achievement in numeracy, writing and reading.
Attendance patterns are established early – a child who regularly misses days in kindergarten or in the early years of school will often continue to miss classes in the later years, and achievement is often less than their classmates. It’s vital that students come to school every day – even in Kindergarten.
Did you know that if your child misses 3 weeks of school per year they will have missed half a year of school by the end of year 6?

“This is a once in a lifetime kinda thing….and can you imagine when we look back on this day like a great memory.” (Anonymous Year 6)
On Wednesday 26th April the enthused senior students (Years 4/5/6) geared up in the undercover area ready to walk up to the Butler Train Station. Today was the day that finally arrived – we were off to see ‘Matilda – The Musical.’
After catching the train into the city, we changed trains to meet our final destination at the Burswood Crown Theatre! Many of the students had not been inside a theatre before and were taken back by the amazing building inside.
As we entered the theatre, we were ushered to our seats, we were excited with the anticipation of what was set before us – the performance of Matilda itself, produced by the talented Tim Minchin himself. In case you didn’t know, Tim Minchin is one of our own, born and bred here in WA!
From the amazing stage design, to the hilarious lyrics in the songs, to the polished choreography and harmonious singers – it was all fabulous!!
Following the intermission, we couldn’t wait to get back to our seats to see the rest of the story unfold. After the musical extravaganza, we made our long journey back home on the train back to Butler.
After such an inspiring day, we all went home tired but with huge smiles on our faces. It was definitely a special experience.
I would like to send out a huge thank you to the students for their exceptional behaviour, travelling to and from the Crown Theatre, demonstrating excellence whilst representing our school.
Furthermore, a huge thank you goes out to the school community in helping us fundraise so a large sum of money. Without you, this day would not have been possible.
And finally, to all the staff who devoted their time during and outside of school to help put this experience all together. Thank you – you truly are wonderful!

Parent Parking
To help ease congestion around the school during peak times we encourage families to walk their children to and from school wherever possible, especially in fine weather or park at the Community Centre car park and walk your children across the oval.
All Staff park at the front of the school. This will free up all bays in the public car park off Cambourne Way.
Families are reminded that parking is not permitted on grassed kerbside areas around the Pre-primary car park and along Tollesbury Avenue, as well as the bricked median strip in Cambourne Parkway or across any footpaths. Parking is also not permitted in bus bays. Please consider the safety of all other road users and pedestrians when parking and leaving schools grounds.
Please also give consideration and respect to owners of properties surrounding the school.
All usual road and parking rules apply around the school and parking fines are issued by rangers (who visit frequently) to those not adhering to the road rules. Please download the map below for parent parking information.

Absentee Messaging Service
Due to the ease of this service, the sending of a text message to Butler Primary School to notify us of your child/ren’s absence has been embraced by many families.
Please send absentee messages through to 0419 091 075 with all of the following details so we can correctly update student records:
- Full name of your child/children
- Reason for absence
- Date of absence
Absences can also be phoned through to the office on 9562 1804.
As per Department of Education policy, it is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school of the reason for your child’s absence/s within three days of the absence. Failure to do this will mean that the absence will be marked as “unacceptable reason” affecting your child’s education and attendance record.
Students Arriving Late
Any student arriving late to school, after the siren sounds at 8.35am, will need to enter the school through the front office to collect a late note which is to be given to their class teacher.
